Fall 2014 Fashion Trends

Fall 2014 Fashion Trends

Intro:
Hello everyone!  My report appears to have taken a hiatus over the past year.  As a result, I felt it vital to get back on track now for Fall 2014.  Spring/Summer 2014 has brought in some fun  new revivals on pieces like the ear cuffs, bib bottoms, wide-leg / palazzo pant and soft-pant/jogger which we find carrying through into fall.  Spring and Summer of 2014 have also been a great Segway carrying on and strengthening some of the trends we earlier saw in Fall 2013 like the sporty looks, graphic contrasts, and animal elements (suede fringe, leather, bright furs).  Altogether, Fall 2014 Fashion trend are an evolution of revived classics like denim, lace, brocade and leather fashioned in a way that makes these very old items seem not only current, but also luxurious.

Themes:
There are many Fashion Trend themes for Fall 2014.  In this section, I will bring up just a few of the strong ones for the season.
Chic Western – Denim Jackets, vests, and chambre shirts paired with suede and fringe accents and accessories.
Diamond Lux – Rocked out and heavy-metal styles with glamorous shine and sparkle.
Urban Sporty – Sports jersey style tops, sporty jackets and studded wedge sneakers, mesh and netting feminine pieces like tailored blouses and maxi dresses.
Rich Tapestries – Heavy brocade fabrics tailored into capes, dresses, and maxi skirts.
90’s Alternative Revival – Wide-leg pants, chunky platform shoes, dusters (ankle-length flowing cardigans), chokers, baby-T’s and bibs.
Star Wars – With release or new movie there is also a rise of space-age star wars inspired looks for the season.

Fashion Colours/Patterns:
Some of the big fashion colours we see for Fall 2014 are blood red, black and neon combos (especially neon green), indigo and vibrant red/orange.
Prints and Patterns for Fall 2014 are flannel plaids, bold rich contrast graphics (like pop-art and graphic novels), sunflowers and insect patterns(mostly bees, butterflies and scarabs or beetles.

Fabrications:
Some of the on-trend fabrications being used in this season's trend pieces/looks are as follows… Sequin, metallic, coloured furs, brocades, feathers, lace, leather, pleather and high-shine patents.  There is also an abundance of Denims plaids and flannels.

Fashion Pieces:
For Fall 2014 we will continue to see a lot of leather-looking and rocker-style leggings and skinny jeans.  Continuing from Spring we are also still seeing a lot of Palazzo pants (soft flowing fabric that is wide from the hip all the way to the ankle or floor) and harem pants.  There is also a newer emergence of the high-wasted, wide-led and flared-leg pants.  I don’t know about the rest of you ladies, but personally, I say “thank goodness!”.  Though I appreciate that many body-types, including the short and curvy such as myself, can rock them some skinnies…. I have always felt more body confident in a wide-leg or flared style.  It helps balance out my curves J.
Denim is big big BIG for Fall 2014!  Denim Jackets, vests, ripped and patchwork boyfriend jeans are all key pieces for this season.
Bib wide-leg pants, maxi dresses and denim overalls have made an appearance for spring and continue much stronger into Fall 2014.  To go along with these we have a strong 90’s grunge and alternative style revival which is also bringing back large flannel shirts, baby and cropped T’s, Ankle-length dusters and chunky sweaters.
Cut-out garments continue to be big for Fall 2014.  Tops cutout with mesh panels in the front , back or both sides.  Cut-outs in shoes are big for the season.  As well as extremely high double slits in maxi skirts.  Sometimes even exposing the pelvic bone.    While some of these cut-out trends may sound a bit trashy, it is important to remember that any of these can still be done in a more classy manor.  The first thing to remember is that not every trend will work for every body type.  We are all shaped different and when trying on trend pieces and making purchase decisions think about tailoring options and physical limitations.  Some things can be tailored in at the waist to be more form flattering.  But items that are too tight anywhere, or just shot too much might not be for you.  It’s ok.  Just explore other trendy looks  and pieces to find what flatters your body best.  If you are able to go for one of these trendy peek-a-boo looks remember not to “give it all away”, ladies!  Even an item showing a good deal of skin and be classed up by pairing with coordinating more conservative items.  Cut-out tops and should be paired with full-coverage bottoms, like a nicely tailored wide-leg pant or maxi-skirt.  A high-slitted skirt can be paired with a high colored long-sleeve top.  This helps keep a look sexy, while also looking confident (NOT trashy!).
Key shoes for Fall 2014 are the flat platform shoe and sneaker, heeled mules and clogs, Birkenstocks, combat boots and the cut-out bootie.
A few key accessories for Fall 2014 are the hair handkerchief (tied at the top of head for a bow-like look), the large statement ear cuff and the midi-rings (smaller size rings and sit between the end and middle joints of the finger).

Fall and Winter 2013 Fashion Trends

Intro:

Welcome everyone to the loveliness that is Fall!  I know many of us are sad to think that the summer weather may soon fade away.  But, please look on the bright side!  Fall means the renewal of enjoying a wider array of fashion pieces.  Where in summer, you yearn to be on trend, but sometimes must put fashion aside for comfort in the heat (wanting to wear your new blouse and booties, but opting for a strappy tank and flip-flops in the heat), a slight fall chill allows us to pull out all the fun layers, jackets, scarves, etc that we so enjoy!

Themes:

Fall and Winter 2013 are full of chic silhouettes and fun pieces that should transition nicely from many items already in your wardrobe from Spring/Summer 2013 as well as last Fall.  Bold black&white geometic contrast prints continue to be huge for the Fall and Winter 2013 season and are now starting to be seen mixed with bold multi-colour florals.  Tailored leather and pleather pieces continue and are now being more embellished with asymmetrical zipper and metal stud accents.  The theme of religious regala is coming out strong for Fall and Winter 2013.  You will see the growth in popularity of cross themes as well as a beautiful assortment of religious renneseance painting prints and stain-glass like patterns as well.  Las Fall we saw an emergency of some unnatural coloured fur, feathers, and animal prints.  This Fall and Winter this theme is reviving even stronger.   Sheer and cut-out pieces also continue on from Spring and Summer.  And for Fall and Winter 2013 we are seeing a rise in large metal plate pieces like jewelry, belts, and accessories and also the use of hologram materials and metallic mesh looking pieces.  Monochromatic layers is another big theme for Fall and Winter.  Layering menswear inspired suit-wear and trenches all in matching neautral color.  Print and pattern themes for Fall and Winter 2013 garments are showing a continueance of cat themes with tigers, panther, etc.  As well as more appearances of cute kitty themed prints and tribal eye-ball prints as well.  Camoflauge and Celestial themes are also on trend for this season.

Fashion Colours and Patterns:

Many of the colors and patterns from the past year will continue to be on-trend for Fall and Winter 2013.  As mentioned earlier, your bold contrast black and whites continue to be key.  Black leather and mixed medias also continue to be key and Oxblood red also carries on from past seasons.  Luxurious Gem-tomes are also coming out strong for Fall and Winter.  Other elements you will want to add to your mix are the very bright electric blues and bright reds especially in fur and leather pieces.  Camofluage is also key as well as cat, skull and eyeball patterns for Fall and Winter 2013.

Fabrications:

Fabrications for Fall and Winter 2013 mostly continue in the path of the past couple seasons.  Make use of your leathers, pleathers, sheers and furs.  Netting and mesh may still have some life left in them, but are definitely fading from the sport-inspired themes of Spring and Summer.  Velvets and boucle are coming back strong for Fall and Winter, but most with some metal edge to them or metal work accents.  Shirpah, fur, and feathers are all big for Fall, mostly in larger or dramatic silhouettes.

Fashion Pieces:

For Fashion pieces this season tailoring is key.  Hold on to your pleather or coated skinny jeans, and tailer mixed media and peplum tops.  You will also be seeing a bit more of bootcut come-back in bottoms.  Skirts continue to be mostly short and a-line.  And many tops will continue to be cropped or have sheer pieces in the middle section.  Thigh-high boots are back, but this season seek out a fitted leather or pleather pair with a chunkier heal and more rounded or squared toe.  Biker and bomber jackets continue to be big, but also be sure to pull back out your black or camo cargo jackets from a few years back.  Spike covered shoes are still a big trend, so it may not hurt to grab your self a pair of lower heal black spike covered pumps.  Something semi-comfy that you can throw into jazz up many otherwise simple outfits.

Spring and Summer 2013 Fashion Trends

Spring and Summer 2013 Fashion Trends

Depending on where you live, the weather may or may not be warming up, but Spring 2013 Fashion trends are definitely heating up the runways.  Paris fashion week has passed and designers, editors and forecasters alike are all abuzz with excitement for the hot colors of Spring.

Themes:

There are several bold looks or themes making a statement this Spring and Summer season.  Colour-blocking and piecing of mixed fabrics is big.  Shine and sparkle continue to be on-trend along with spikes and studs. Long flowing skirts are making a big splash, paired with mid-riff exposing structured tops.  To go along with the mid-riff exposure, “peek-a-boo” looks are also a big hit for Spring and Summer 2013.  Structured dresses, jackets, and tops are being pieced in a way to allow small mesh panels or open areas to showcase a bit of mid-riff, side boob or center cleavage, without taking too much away from the imagination.  Bold geometric patterns in contrasting colours continue to be big, especially in black and whites, paired with a pop of a bold bright coloured solid (i.e. for example a black and white checkerboard dress paired with bright yellow pumps or handbag).   Last year we first started to see the re-emergence of ruffles with the “peplum”.  This year ruffles take it a step further with large bold flounces at not only the waist, but also the shoulders and hem-lines of garments.  Friffly A-line dresses are a big looks for Spring and Summer 2013 as well in either bright eyelets or bold floral prints.  Asian and brocaide prints also continue to be popular.  Sporty inspired look continues to climb with sporty/spectator apparel in meshes and synthetics, tennis skirts, and wedge-heeled high-top sneakers.  And another look re-emerging from the 90’s is the “Dress over jeans/pants”.  Appearing in Spring, mostly in the form of light-weight flowy sheer dresses over a more fitted bottom.

Fashion Colours:

Neons continue to be big for Spring and Summer 2013.  Not just in your bold trend pieces, accessories and sporty-look items, but also in your basics.  Trade in your Standard denim skinny jeans for a pair in neon pink or bright yellow!  Change in your basic fitted, tanks and button-up blouses for ones in a light-weight bold neon solid or pattern!  All neons welcome!  Bright yellow is a big key colour for the season as well as emeralds, turquoises and cool tones.

Fabrications:

Leather, Pleather, Sheers and Nettings continue to be big for this season.  Clear plastics are also making a big comeback in trims and accessories.  Sequin, Laces, Eyelet, as well as lace cut or pierced leathers.

Fashion Pieces:

Fashion pieces for Spring and Summer 2013 are funky and fun!   High-waisted faux-leather or coated cotton skinny pants are a great basic to mix and match this season. Long flowing skirts with a high waist band pair nicely with a structured waist-length top or mid-riff tee or tank.  Peplum and mid-riff tops are a must for Spring and Summer 2013.  Understandably, mid-riffs are not for everybody, but if you can pull it off, go ALL OUT!  Many silhouettes in necklaces continue to be within the realm of trend, but Chokers are in an over-all climb on the runway and likely to continue for at least a couple more seasons.  See-through plastic handbags and accessories are a big essential for Spring and Summer 2013, Summer transitioning more into open weave natural elements in the mix.  And all types of bold accessories in a bold bright solid colour are popping up for the warmer weather seasons.  For shoes, pointed toe pumps and ballet flats continue to be a must-have.  Chunky and platform heals also continue to be big, especially in bold colours and patterns.  Metallic or shine fabrication gladiator boots upgrade us from the past few summer’s gladiator sandal trend, and wedge-heeled high-top sneakers are the finishing piece to polish off your sporty looks for the season.

January Clearance Shopping

Post-holiday is a great time to go shopping (If you have any money left!).  This is a great time to stock up on Holiday supplies for next year, boots, outerwear, basics and trend pieces for following fall.  In January you will find more stores loaded with clearance racks.  All of the access and over-bought items from fall now have to go in order to make room for new spring merchandise which will hit full force beginning in February.  So if you have manage to keep a little spare $ to the side for January, then hitting the stores may be a nice pick-me-up on these dull post-holiday weeks.
Take a look at the winter and fall items you have been wearing for the past few months.  See which heavily used basics are starting to show wear or could use replacing.  Make yourself a list before leaving the house of the items you need and where you will typically shop for such items.  Hit those stores/malls/centers with the specifics in mind.  This will help you more efficiently scan the clearance areas for the racks and sections more relevant to your needs.  Also try checking the store websites beforehand to get a feel for how much clearance they might have in the categories you seek before you go out of your way for a particular store.  If the website shows only a few items even marked down, then the store is not likely to have much more in stock.  Then hit the retailers you are interested in and scope out locations as well to see if certain locations are less frequented by the mass of shoppers.  Those less frequented, may have received less initial inventory, but they might also still be holding a larger variety of items now at clearance prices.
Regardless of which retailer you hit for this clearance shopping, what you will find may be a lot of odds and ends and it may require a little time and digging.  But the assortment of seasonal items you may find can be well worth the work at these prices.  For higher quality lasting basics, try hitting nearby outlet malls.  They too are usually working on cleaning house this time of year and will be substantially less crowded than they would have been a month earlier.
Good luck and happy shopping!

Fall 2012 Fashion Trend Report

Fall 2012 Fashion Trend Report

The big fashion trends for Fall and winter 2012 are full of vibrance and color.  Following in the evolution of big trends from last fall and this Spring, you will find that many of your current trend pieces can still be utilized in the coming seasons.  A few new haute trend accessories and jewelry items might be all you need to vamp up your fun Spring and Summer wardrobes and layer them into more Fall appropriate looks.

Fall 2012 Fashion Themes:
For Fall 2012, we are seeing a continuation of the bright and bold graphic simplicity ideas from Spring.  Bold black and white contrast prints and pops of bright neon colours give a fun and lively feel to a sophisticated wardrobe.  Try a sheer solid neon colored blouse with a black and white striped tailored skirt.  Or perhaps, a neon patterned tank or dress worn this summer, worn underneath a tailored black blazer.  Even just popping a simple black suit or dress with a neon pair of shoes and earrings can get this trend covered.

In lines with Graphic Simplicity trend is also a contuation of a sporty look.  Perhaps the timing of the olypics has played a role in this.  For Fall 2012, there is still a great deal of sporty inspired looks hitting the streets.  Sporty mesh and synthetic fabrications for fashion apparel that give the wearer a fashion forward, yet comfortable and athletic look.

Animal inspiration is still an important element for Fall 2012 Fashion.  This season you will still see a lot of animal prints, animal skins, and faux furs.  Some of the changes you will notice from past seasons is in the presentation of these materials.  For Fall 2012, you will see that the leathers are taking on a more shiny, wet look.  Leather pieces are tailored closely to the body to have a more elegant and sophisticated feel, but are made or treated to have more of a patent or wet leather look and may often be found in unnatural, bright colors.  Likewise, faux furs will still be present, but may be appearing more in colours such as bright blue, purple, red or orange.

Heavy metal and rocker inspired looks have morphed into more or a romantic gothic feel.  You will see a lot of luxurious rich satin with black lace over-lays.  Long flowing skirts in luxurious fabrics paired with spiked feminine jewelry and rhynstone encrusted skull embellishments.  Along the lines of this romantic feel is a continuation of Lady-like themes in silhouetes and garment shapes.  There is a lot of a-line shapes to accentuate the female form.  You will also see a lot of continued use of pearl strands, and cameos as were big last Fall as well.

Spring 2012 Trends

I know it may be hard to look past the humm-drum
grey winter weather and start visualizing Spring. But the time is now! If you can do a little early planning for the up-coming Spring season, you can get a feel for what looks fit your body style and life and slowly begin to stock up on trend items as they become available. Spring and Summer 2012 fashion trends are all about colour! The biggest trend colors showing up in previews are warm sunset shades of orange and gold. Bright canary yellows and blues in a royal or china shade. Pair these with warm ginger brown, nude taupe and camel. Then throw in some crisp white and you match the shades of the season. For trendy prints and patterns there is
a lot of stripes and bold color-blocking paired with a neutral. There is also a greater emerging of dots, geometric patterns and a graphic simplicity feel. Hold onto and continue to wear your animal prints and bird or wild life patterns from fall as these still show some life for at least a couple more seasons. Themes of the Spring 2012 fashion trends are still showing a lot of desert bohemian. But there is also an emergence of the active and spectator feel in fashion apparel.

Straw, canvas, linen, crochet and snake skin are still important fabrications. Along with a variety of natural or woven-looking elements. Silk, satin, eyelet and lace are still hot to fit the preference of the more feminine lady-like styles. There is also a a revival of more 90's feeling sporty meshes, solid shears, and active wear fabrications. Key pieces for your Spring 2012 wardrobe include platform soles wedges and chunkier platform pumps. Skinny jeans in bright colors are still a key piece, but you will also start to see more flared and wider-legged jeans and pants reemerging. For dresses, you will see a lot of bright colors, but also a lot of "little white dresses" filling the space of previous black easy pieces for spring. You will also see hi-low hems coming onto the scene, where the hemline of the skirt or dress is knee-length or shorter in the front and tilts down to be longer in the back. Light-weight boyfriend style blazers are still big, but may now appear in more feminine fabrications or in bolder bright colors.

All in all, Spring 2012 is shaping up to bold, bright and fun where fashion is concerned. See look through your closets and make your "must haves" list for Spring. Hit the stores and keep you eye out for the key fashion elements that will convert your wardrobe from grey winter to a BEAUTIFUL spring!

Here are just a few examples of some hot looks for Spring and Summer 2012. As stated in the Spring 2012 Trends description, there is a big focus on bright colors and geometric patterns. These are just a few examples utilizing some of the current trends. I hope this helps give you some ideas or inspiration for how to update your wardrobe to it's best on-trend potential.

A bright colored lace top adds a little feminine detail while also staying on trend with all the Spring 2012 brights. If the top is in a solid color, then you can pair it with contrasting bright accessories to add some extra energy to the ensemble without making anything clash.

Open knit sweaters, wooden beads, and woven esparilla wedges help to add an earthy chic to your Spring or Summer warbrobe.
A bold printed shift dress is any easy and fun piece for your wardobe this Spring. It can be dressed down with a woven belt and slouchy boots, or dressed up for evening with neutral metal accessories and solid coordinating pumps.
Either pull from your existing wardrobe, or pick up a couple basic pieces with bold black and white geometric patterns. A black and white pin-striped skirt or blazer, and easily be paired with a bright solid color to create some graphic interest, while also giving you an easy, on-trend look.
For a slightly more tailored looking casual evening look, try pairing some dress shorts or fitting capris with chunky dress pumps, a fav graphic tee, and a fedora. This can be any easy way to dress up your casual t-shirts and still fill comfortable while standing out in the crowd.
Dresses for Spring and Summer 2012 come in a variety of lenghts. With all the fun, bold colors you will see out this season, it would be worthwhile to find a dress or two in a bold all over print. Try things on and make sure whatever you select is flattering to your form and skin tone. Once you have a fun patterned dress in your wardrobe, it can be an easy stand by to throw on any given day. The dress can be worn alone for an easy outfit that stil has visual interest, or the dress can be paired with a variety of solid or neutral accessories for a more dolled-up look.

Paint the Town Red

I have heard it said on several occasions over the years that red has become the "new black". Though I am sure red will never have quite the long standing versatility of black, I would agree to an extent that it has almost become something of a neutral if worn properly.
Trends for silhouettes in clothing, shoes, accessories will always come and go, and the "must have" shades will change with the seasons. But throwing the right red piece into your daily mix can add fun appeal, sophistication, and even a little sexy into your wardrobe.

Red pumps - find your self a great pair of red pumps!
- Something that fits current trends for shoe shape and shade of red. You will typically see more orange or pink based reds around in spring/summer and see more deep blue-based or brown reds in the Fall/Holiday time frame.
- Keep in mind that the heal height and thickness should work well with the length of pants you most often wear and be comfortable enough for you to utilize in your every day life. If you like the added height, but are unsteady in stilettos then get something with a thinker heal for better comfort and stability.
The right pair of red pumps can be worn with jeans on the weekend for a fun spike of color, in the office during the week to add a little sass and flare to that bland suit, and thrown on with your favorite black dress for an evening out.

Red bag - Whatever style or type of bag you like to use for your daily life, try switching it out for a similar handbag in a bold, trend right shade of red. It will keep things easy and organized as you are used to. Be functional, but add a great pop of color no matter what you are doing. Running to the gym, grocery shopping, having a nice night out, or on a coffee date with the girls.

Red lipstick - Throw in a little red lipstick or gloss, and rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrar! Hello Bombshell!

Just a couple fun ideas to add some flair to your style.
